Daniel Maldini, Cagliari striker and son of Italian legend Paolo Maldini, was involved in a traffic accident in Milan early Sunday morning when he crashed his car, a Porsche. The 24-year-old player was rescued and taken to a hospital, where he underwent routine exams in the emergency room. His lawyer, Danilo Buongiorno, stated that Maldini "is fine" and suffered no injuries, being released immediately after the medical procedures.
According to information from the newspaper "La Gazzetta dello Sport" and the Ansa agency, the player tested positive for alcohol on the breathalyzer performed after the accident. With the positive result, Maldini had his driver's license confiscated by Italian authorities.
The accident occurred a few hours after the striker's standout performance. On Saturday, Maldini converted a penalty that secured Cagliari's 2-1 victory over Atalanta, his previous club. The player came through the ranks at AC Milan, just like his father Paolo Maldini, and had spells at Monza, Atalanta and Lazio before being signed by Cagliari in the preseason.
