The president of the Supreme Federal Court, Justice Edson Fachin, assumed on Saturday night the rapporteurship of the procedure involving Justice Alexandre de Moraes and the messages exchanged with businessman Daniel Vorcaro. The decision was made after the case was referred to the Presidency of the STF by Justice André Mendonça, who had opened the procedure to analyze the Federal Police report on the alleged relationship of proximity and the content of the conversations between Vorcaro and Moraes.
The case will be judged by the full court next Tuesday, the 15th, when the justices will decide whether Moraes will be investigated or not. The trial takes place amid controversy over alleged messages that would indicate a closer relationship between the justice and the businessman, who was arrested shortly before the revealed conversations.
Mendonça sent the case to the Presidency of the STF to comply with a determination by Fachin himself, who centralized in his office any and all investigations that may involve Court justices. The measure aims to ensure greater control and secrecy over procedures dealing with members of the court.
In addition to this case, Fachin also ordered the sending to the Presidency of the investigations into the Master case and INSS fraud, but did not clarify whether he will assume the rapporteurship of these proceedings. The investigations remain suspended until a new decision by the president of the STF.
