Ílhavo launches "Zero Loneliness" with 24-hour telecare and volunteering network

SAPO Notícias13 September 2026 at 14:38

The Municipality of Ílhavo will present next Wednesday, September 16, the municipal program "Zero Loneliness," a new response aimed at preventing and reducing situations of loneliness and social isolation. The program is primarily targeted at the older population of the municipality.

The presentation of "Zero Loneliness" will take place during the "Meeting on Loneliness," starting at 10:00 AM, at the Fórum da Maior, where the characteristics and functionalities of this municipal initiative will be detailed.

The program features a telecare service available 24 hours a day, allowing elderly people to request support at any time. Additionally, it includes a volunteering network that will serve as a complement to the follow-up of people in isolation situations.

With this initiative, the Municipality of Ílhavo intends to create a continuous support system for citizens most vulnerable to loneliness, ensuring they have access to follow-up and assistance on a permanent basis.

Why this matters

Residents of Ílhavo, especially elderly people living alone or in isolation, now have access to free and permanent support through telecare and volunteering. This is a concrete response from the municipality to a growing social problem, announced after a meeting dedicated to the theme that brings together specialists and local entities.
