Cristóvão Norte, president of PSD Algarve, defended at the conference "Politics in Feminine", held on September 12 at the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth (IPDJ) in Faro, that women's participation in politics must go beyond simple presence, and should translate into power and capacity for action. The event was promoted by PSD Faro and the Social Democratic Women of Faro, bringing together social-democratic women and other interested participants in the topic.
Cristóvão Norte argued that the central issue is not representativeness, but the possibility to intervene and make decisions. He stated that it is not about treating women better than others, but about ensuring they are not treated less favorably. He also stressed that complete politics requires balance of ages, knowledge and gender, linking this objective to the work developed by MSD.
Cláudia Luz, coordinator of the Social Democratic Women of Faro, highlighted that women's participation in politics is essential for a stronger, more plural and representative democracy, advocating for the need to create more spaces for debate, training and participation that allow more women to take on responsibilities in public life.
The conference is part of a set of initiatives that MSD has been promoting in the Algarve to strengthen female civic and political participation, seeking to encourage a more active, democratic and equal intervention by women in their communities.
