An investigative team from the Repórter SÁBADO programme infiltrated the Mouraria neighbourhood in central Lisbon to document the situation of degradation and criminality affecting the local population. The investigation reveals a scenario of ineffectiveness in both police action and local authorities in combating the problem.
Signs of degradation multiply in various parts of the city, demonstrating the lack of response from authorities to halt the situation. In the Mouraria neighbourhood, residents are forced to coexist daily with drug dealers and users.
The central point of the investigation is the so-called "drug supermarket," an area controlled by dealers where criminal activity takes place openly. The investigative team managed to document the reality of this location during their infiltration.
The complete investigation will be broadcast on Sunday at 9:40 pm on the NOW channel. The programme aims to demonstrate that the problem has persisted despite authorities being aware of the situation.
