One person died and two were injured in the collapse of an illegal mine in Zambézia province, central Mozambique. The incident occurred in the locality of Moiane, in Gilé district, in another fatal case caused by a landslide at an illegal mining operation.
With this latest accident, the number of dead in less than a week in similar accidents in the central region of the country rises to 10. Several deaths from collapses at illegal mines have occurred consecutively, warning of the growing risks of this activity.
The district administrator of Gilé spoke to the media about the incident, confirming the victim numbers. According to his statement, three people were involved in the accident at the illegal mine.
