China and India available to mediate conflict between Russia and Ukraine

RTP Notícias13 September 2026 at 13:40

At the BRICS Summit, China and India offered themselves as peace mediators for the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. This mediation proposal comes in the context of the summit that brings together the member countries of the bloc. The two Asian nations expressed willingness to intervene in the conflict resolution process. The gesture represents a joint effort by the two emerging BRICS powers to contribute to the peaceful resolution of the war.

Why this matters

This development is significant because it indicates a possible new direction in attempts to resolve the conflict, with emerging powers taking an active role in global diplomacy. The availability of China and India, two of the world's largest economies, as mediators could alter the dynamics of peace negotiations and represent a counterweight to Western mediation.
