Triathlete Rachel Furtado, 46 years old, died on Saturday morning (12th) after suffering a sudden illness while training at Parque da Cidade in Brasília. She was rescued and taken to Hospital Regional da Asa Norte (Hran), but could not be saved. The cause of the sudden illness was not reported.
According to the Military Fire Department of the Federal District (CBMDF), Rachel was in cardiac arrest when the teams arrived at the scene. The paramedics initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers and managed to restore the athlete's vital signs. After stabilization, she was transported to the hospital, where she passed away.
In addition to her work in sports, Rachel was a director of Instituto Feliciência, an organization focused on the development and education of children and adolescents. The entity mourned her death on social media, reporting that she had a sudden illness after performing her physical activities and that, despite the resuscitation attempts, she could not survive.
