The president of CCP (Confederation of Commerce and Services of Portugal), Gustavo Paulo Duarte, defended in an interview with Negócios and Antena 1 that it is possible to reach an agreement on labor reform in social dialogue, as long as it includes measures that "truly matter." According to Gustavo Paulo Duarte, all participants, both workers and companies, want improvements in working conditions, and the rejected labor reform should not be considered the only available option.
The CCP leader considered that the negotiation of labor reform was an example of what should not be done, as the process consisted of a situation where the Government presented the measures and the other parties only discussed them, instead of a true dialogue between all parties. Gustavo Paulo Duarte stated that his "red lines" are all measures that affect the sector and workers in transport, exemplifying that the Government's labor reform was not going to solve the problems of that sector.
The confederation stated that the worst enemy of the average salary is the minimum wage decree, arguing that when the national minimum wage is raised, all other workers are being compressed, as companies are left without capacity to distribute money to other workers. The tripartite agreement in force until 2028 provides for a minimum wage increase to 970 euros next year.
The Government and social partners will meet in social dialogue on Wednesday, with the presence of Finance Minister Miranda Sarmento, to discuss the State Budget for 2027 and salary transparency.
