The Court of Accounts, through its Madeira regional section, granted prior approval to the public works contract for the rehabilitation of the Basic and Secondary School D. Lucinda de Andrade, in São Vicente. The contract was signed on 14 March 2026, between the court and the entities involved in the works.
The project includes the implementation of energy efficiency measures and the rehabilitation of the school building. The Court of Accounts' decision comes after some legal controversy that had been pending regarding this award process.
The prior approval of the Court of Accounts is a mandatory legal requirement for the execution of public works contracts above a certain value, functioning as a prior verification of the financial and administrative legality of the expenditure.
With this decision, the conditions are in place for the rehabilitation works at São Vicente School to move forward, putting an end to the doubts that existed about the legality of the contractual process.
