The man suspected of killing a couple in Lagos, for whom he worked as a caretaker, was remanded in custody after being brought before the criminal investigating judge in Portimão for his first judicial hearing. The decision to apply the most severe precautionary measure was made following the suspect's detention.
The detainee is a 45-year-old foreign citizen, with no known criminal record, who was captured in the early hours of yesterday on strong suspicion of being the author of two counts of qualified homicide and desecration of a corpse. The victims are a 79-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman, a couple of foreign entrepreneurs in the healthcare sector who had been residing in Portugal for several years.
The crimes occurred at the victims' home, where they were allegedly initially assaulted with a blunt object, suffering serious injuries that caused their death. Subsequently, the suspect dragged the bodies to a cistern on the property, attempting to decompose them with chemical products.
The PJ investigation continues to clarify all the circumstances of the crimes, namely the motive and the possible existence of other involved parties.
