The Lisbon District Firefighters Federation considers it "unsustainable and unacceptable" that the successive increase in fuel prices continues to be borne entirely by the Humanitarian Firefighter Associations, advocating for an urgent review of the current funding model. In a statement released on 12 September, the Federation warned that this situation is compromising the operation of firefighting corps in the region.
The federation demands a response from the Government regarding the escalation of fuel costs, arguing that humanitarian associations lack the financial capacity to continuously absorb these increases. The current funding model does not include mechanisms for adapting to market prices, which has been creating growing difficulties for the entities managing the firefighters.
The firefighting corps in the Lisbon district thus face increased financial pressure that threatens their operational capacity. The Federation argues that clear government positioning is necessary to ensure the sustainability of the sector and the continuity of civil protection services provided to the population.
