Leiria Castle and Lisbon Cathedral were elected as two of the New 7 Wonders of Portugal, in a final vote that took place recently. Centro de Portugal thus managed to conquer two of the seven places in this prestigious ranking.
The New 7 Wonders of Portugal contest is an initiative that aims to promote and distinguish the most emblematic heritage of the country. The vote involved millions of Portuguese people who were able to express their preferences through different channels.
Leiria Castle, with its thousand-year history and privileged location, has been one of the main tourist points in the Centro region. Lisbon Cathedral, as one of the oldest cathedrals in the country, represents the religious and historical heritage of the capital.
