The Instituto Superior Miguel Torga will, starting from the next academic year, teach part of its courses in new facilities in Coimbra's Baixa. This change represents a significant investment by the higher education institution in the historic zone of the city.
The new facilities were provided by the Municipal Council of Coimbra, in a partnership between the local authority and the institute. This transfer is part of a broader strategy to revitalize Coimbra's Baixa, which aims to economically and socially dynamize that area of the city.
The initiative comes in a context where several Portuguese cities have sought to bring new life to their historic centers, frequently affected by commercial and population desertification. With the presence of students, ISMT hopes to contribute to the revitalization of local commerce and to a greater influx of people in that area of the city.
