From Guarda to the world: this is how the history of Escape Livre is made

Diário de Coimbra13 September 2026 at 09:30

A book dedicated to Escape Livre was presented, celebrating four decades of history of this initiative. The work aims to preserve the memory and history of a journey that began 40 years ago.

The project has its origins in Guarda and has expanded to the world over the years. The book presentation marked a moment of retrospection on the entire path traveled.

The publication not only looks to the past, also serving as a motto for the future. The "everlasting passion" is referred to as the engine that will continue to drive the project in the years to come.

Why this matters

The launch is of direct interest to readers from the Guarda region and to those who know or followed Escape Livre, offering a historical-cultural record that documents a local history with international reach. The work also serves as a reference to understand the cultural and associative evolution of the region over 40 years.

Sculpture 'Saudade' leaves Galeão and goes to Marina da Glória, previously put up for sale

The sculpture "Saudade", 1.80m tall, created by artist Beto Gatti, was transferred from Tom Jobim International Airport, where it remained for four years, to the promenade of Axia Marina da Glória, in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro. The piece, which will be on display for a month in Guanabara Bay, is part of the new edition of the Monumental Arte na Marina da Glória project, opening this Sunday (13). Along with two other bronze sculptures by the same artist — all for sale, with 20% of the proceeds going to the Associação Saúde Criança — the work proposes a reflection on how screens keep us connected but not always close. The exhibition serves as a preview of the arrival of ArtRIO next week, while Gatti prepares a show on the same theme in London.
