Sculpture 'Saudade' leaves Galeão and goes to Marina da Glória, previously put up for sale

oglobo13 September 2026 at 14:00

The sculpture "Saudade", 1.80m tall, created by artist Beto Gatti, was transferred from Galeão, where it remained for four years accompanying the departures, to the promenade of Axia Marina da Glória, in Rio de Janeiro. The piece now integrates the new edition of the Monumental Arte na Marina da Glória project, conceived by Kátia d'Avillez and carried out by BR Marinas, opening this Sunday (13).

The work brings a reflection on how screens keep us connected but not always close, a theme that gains even more relevance in the current scenario. On site, "Saudade" shares space with two other bronze sculptures that follow the same theme of digital life, serving as a preview of the artistic atmosphere that will take over the marina with the arrival of ArtRio the following week.

The three pieces by Beto Gatti will be on display throughout the next month against the backdrop of Guanabara Bay and will be for sale. Of the total, 20% of the proceeds will be donated to the Associação Saúde Criança Renascer, a nonprofit organization.

At the same time, artist Beto Gatti is already preparing to inaugurate, next week, an exhibition on the same theme of digital life in London, expanding the discussion about the relationship between technology and human connection to the international stage.

Why this matters

For Rio readers, the change of the sculpture from Galeão to Marina da Glória represents the opportunity to see an iconic work of the city in a new free public setting, as well as follow the artistic programming that precedes ArtRIO, one of the main art fairs in Latin America. The reader is also informed about the partial donation of sales to a local children's health NGO.
