A viral story is circulating on social media claiming that a bear, after being treated at a rehabilitation center when it was young, returned years later to take other injured animals to receive help. According to the posts, the bear would have transported an injured raccoon and fox to the center.
SIC Verifica investigated the veracity of this narrative. According to the fact-check, the images accompanying the story are real and were recorded at an animal rehabilitation center in Pennsylvania, United States. However, the interpretation given in the viral posts does not correspond to what actually happened.
The rehabilitation center in question confirmed that an injured raccoon was found near its facilities, but it was not a bear that brought it there. The fox was also rescued separately. The center clarified that the presence of multiple injured animals in the same area is common and has no relation to the supposed action of the bear.
SIC Verifica concludes that the viral story combines real facts with a fictional narrative. The images are authentic, but the interpretation that the bear would have returned to help other animals does not correspond to the reality verified by the rehabilitation center.
