Dribbles and improvisation are worth points and trophies in club youth projects

oglobo13 September 2026 at 06:00

It wasn't just any Wednesday at Ceará's youth academy. The boys gathered on the field for a kind of competition with the goal of dribbling. The main dynamic involved a "one against one" duel, known as X1, where a boy with the ball needed to get past the other, who had the mission of stealing the ball. In another version of the activity, there was a goalkeeper, and besides getting past the defender, the athlete needed to score. The dribble counts as a point, and it can be the elastic, scooter, blanket, or passing the ball between the legs. At the end of the exercise, the group that accumulated the most points won a trophy.

This is one of the activities of Formando Dribladores, a project from Ceará's youth academy focused on stimulating the individual capacity to dribble and improvise solutions. The project is associated with the famous ginga that the football world has historically associated with Brazil. The idea arose from a concern, and the team responsible for the project has been following the children participating in this activity.

Why this matters

The initiative directly affects the young athletes in Ceará's youth academy, who now have a differentiated method of development focused on individual creativity. The proposal can serve as a model for other Brazilian clubs seeking to recover the tradition of Brazilian dribbling, changing the way youth academies train and evaluate their players.
