The leaders of the BRICS countries approved today, unanimously, the New Delhi Declaration, during the plenary session held at the Bharat Mandapam convention center in the Indian capital. India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, announced that they already had the draft of the declaration, explaining that the text reflects the essence of decisions and positions on the main global and regional issues.
No representative raised objections to the declaration, which was unanimously approved by the heads of State of the bloc. Among the leaders present were Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
The approval of this document put an end to some issues that were still outstanding before the leaders' meeting. Consensus was the main challenge at this encounter, since 11 countries with distinct positions on the main international conflicts were represented, such as the war in the Middle East and Ukraine.
The BRICS bloc is composed of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia.
