The Municipality of Águeda is promoting, between September 16 and 22, a diversified program of initiatives integrated into European Mobility Week and European Car-Free Day, with the aim of raising awareness of more sustainable, accessible, inclusive and environmentally friendly forms of mobility. The Vice-President of the Municipality of Águeda, Edson Santos, highlighted that the initiative represents an opportunity to reflect on these themes and that the city has been affirming a sustainability strategy that involves valuing public transport, bicycles and pedestrian routes, emphasizing the importance of the city's sustainable development strategy.
Subordinated to the theme "Mobility for all – Justice between generations", this year's edition aims to stimulate reflection on current commuting habits and encourage the adoption of more sustainable alternatives. The municipal program, with the motto "Águeda Mobility + Sustainable – Small Actions, Big Movements!", brings together activities aimed at different audiences and age groups, from awareness actions and walks to initiatives related to bicycles, public transport, clean energy and inclusive mobility.
The program kicks off on the 16th with the Public Transport Roadshow, followed on the 17th by the Accessible and Inclusive Walk and on the 18th by the 24th edition of CERCIAG in Motion. The 19th concentrates various initiatives on Rua Luís de Camões, including the Mobility Ambassadors Mission, a children's game called "Discovering Sustainable Mobility", the Pedal & Repair Workshop, Pedal & Generate Energy, and "Travel Better, Breathe Better", in partnership with Busway, a "Águeda in Motion" Treasure Hunt and "Stories on Pedals".
On September 22, European Car-Free Day, Águeda will hold the 6th edition of Schools with Pedals, Energy-Generating Bicycles and "The Train of Happy Steps – Mobility for All". Throughout the week, the Municipality also launches the beÁgueda challenge: "Pedal for Sustainable Mobility!", inviting the population to cycle at least 50 kilometers during the week. The program also includes the use of MobeÁgueda – Electric Shuttle and the initiative "Ambassadors of Mobility: Walk, Clean and Preserve", in partnership with the Águeda Municipal Running and Walking Center.
