On September 10, 2026, the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere participated in the 25th National Physics Conference and the 36th Iberian Meeting for Physics Teaching, held at the Institute of Education of the University of Lisbon, between September 9 and 12. The event brought together professionals and students from the physics community, from primary school teachers to researchers in various fields.
The IPMA team, represented by Dina Vales and Eva Góngora from the Geophysics Division, presented three posters focused on seismicity. The study "Seismicity of Madeira studied from waveform inversion of ML>4 earthquakes" stood out, revealing the seismic moment tensors for the Madeira archipelago and adjacent regions.
The study "K index values for the São Teotónio geomagnetic observatory" was also presented, which aims to monitor disturbances in the Earth's magnetic field and improve communication between geomagnetic observatories and operational forecasting centers. The third poster presented data on "Recent seismicity in mainland Portugal and adjacent area."
This IPMA participation in the conference reaffirms its commitment to scientific research and knowledge dissemination in the field of Geophysics, both nationally and internationally.
