About 60 first-year students from the Faculty of Medicine at the Portuguese Catholic University (FM-UCP), in partnership with the Just a Change association, went to the Seia Volunteer Firefighters' station to carry out painting and renovation work in various operational areas of the building. The students arrived in the city on Friday and will remain in Seia until Sunday, dedicating a full day to this volunteering and solidarity initiative.
The intervention focused on strategic spaces for the well-being of the operational personnel, including the Noble Hall, the male and female dormitories, and the corridors leading to the sanitary facilities. This action aimed to improve the conditions of the station where firefighters spend many hours serving the population.
The Just a Change association aims to rehabilitate spaces and combat housing poverty, but according to Patrícia Boa Alma, partnership manager at the organization, acting in a fire station takes on a special meaning as it is improving the conditions of those who spend their lives serving and protecting others. The commander of the Seia Volunteer Firefighters, Marco Teixeira, thanked the mobilization, stating that the recovery of the areas brings direct improvement to the conditions provided to the operational personnel.
On the volunteers' side, Ana Raimundo, a 6th-year medical student at the Catholic University, highlighted that more than painting walls, the action allowed them to put their time and availability at the service of the community. The initiative fits into the FM-UCP's vision of promoting volunteering as an essential aspect of personal and civic development, leaving a lasting mark both on the station's facilities and on the Seia community.
