Almost 8 in every 10 Portuguese were targeted by at least one online scam or fraud attempt in 2025, according to data from the State of Scams Report, a report by the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA). This value represents a 10% increase compared to the previous period.
Digital scams take various forms, including messages appearing to be sent by the bank, allegedly held packages, overly advantageous job offers, and investment proposals with guaranteed returns.
The phenomenon has been growing significantly, becoming increasingly present in the daily lives of Portuguese people. The prevalence of this type of fraud positions Portugal among the countries most affected by online scam attempts.
