On Friday (11), four members of a gang were arrested in the act during Rock in Rio on suspicion of serial cell phone thefts at the festival. The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police reported that the criminals operated together, posing as City of Rock attendees to approach victims and take their phones without them noticing.
The arrests were carried out by agents from the Special Delegation for the Repression of Crimes Against Intellectual Property (DRCPIM) and the 16th Police Station (Barra da Tijuca), who investigated the gang's activities within the event. The stolen cell phones were recovered, and some were returned to their owners less than an hour after the crimes.
According to the police, the four arrested individuals are from Belém, in Pará. They were formally charged with qualified theft and criminal association. The investigation is ongoing to identify any additional involved parties.
