900 tonnes of Alvarinho and an exceptional quality harvest

Alto Minho TV12 September 2026 at 20:03

The Melgaço region is experiencing harvest season, renewing a tradition made of work, dedication and many hands. This year, conditions were favorable and the harvest reached 900 tonnes of Alvarinho grapes received by the Quintas de Melgaço cooperative, with quality considered exceptional.

Behind these numbers are more than 500 families from Melgaço, who are wine producers and who, year after year, contribute to affirming the name of Melgaço and the prestige of one of the most recognized varieties in the country.

The Alvarinho variety is one of the main symbols of the Melgaço region, being recognized nationally for its quality and distinctiveness.

Why this matters

Wine consumers of Alvarinho from Minho can expect a new edition of superior quality, while local producers see their work recognized and the regional economy strengthened by one of its main agricultural activities.

The president of CCP, João Vieira Lopes, argued that companies should not be required to pay minimum wages, claiming that the State is also failing to meet its obligations under the income agreement. The confederation does not feel bound by the pact that foresees an increase in the minimum wage to 970 euros next year, positioning itself against the imposition of salary minimums as a legal obligation for the business sector.

BC servers who helped Vorcaro suspected the Master a year before complaint

Documents revealed by the STF show that two Central Bank servers, Belline Santana and Paulo Sérgio Neves de Souza, both from the Banking Supervision Department (Desup), acted in favor of former banker Daniel Vorcaro, delaying the official communication of Banco Master's fraud. Suspicions arose in September 2024, but the complaint to the Federal Public Ministry was only made a year later, after the interference of the servers who informed Vorcaro about the names of the police officers investigating him and advised him before meetings with the BC president, Roberto Campos Neto.

Prices in Spain increasingly attract Portuguese, even those living further from the border

The price difference between Portugal and Spain is attracting more and more Portuguese to shop in the neighboring country, especially in fuels, where a liter costs about 50 cents less. Although inhabitants of border areas have been practicing this habit for a long time, the current disparity is so significant that it now also pays off for those living further from the border, making the trip economically advantageous.
