The 20th edition of the Mercadinhos da Margem Esquerda takes place on Sunday (October 13), between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM, at Alameda do UC Exploratório. Entry is free and the event features dozens of local producer stalls offering fresh and prepared food products, including seasonal fruits and vegetables, organic and family farming products, microgreens, mushrooms, salt from Figueira da Foz, flowers, bread, honey, artisanal ice creams, and other regional products.
The program includes free activities such as an open Aikido class at 10:30 AM and a workshop on preparing calendula balm for babies at 11:00 AM, both without the need for registration. Celestino Ruivo conducts a solar cooking demonstration between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM, and students from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Coimbra perform free cardiovascular screenings throughout the day.
There are also four cooking workshops scheduled, led by Filipa Ramos, dedicated to making savory muffins at 11:30 AM, 2:15 PM, 3:30 PM, and 4:45 PM, with a cost of five euros per person and registration on the day. During the event, activities from the Plasti(Mi)Tox project on marine animals are also taking place within the Pet Lab, in partnership with the Escola Universitária Vasco da Gama, as well as visual artists working live.
The Mercadinhos da Margem Esquerda are an initiative of UC Exploratório in partnership with the União das Freguesias de Santa Clara e Castelo Viegas, the Office for Sustainable Development of the University of Coimbra, and Coimbra Mais Futuro.
