The State Secretariat of Prison Police of Rio de Janeiro investigates the use of a drone to smuggle illicit equipment to the Oscar Stevenson Penal Institute, a female prison in Benfica, in the North Zone. The device flew over the unit between 3am and 4am on Saturday morning, and based on the flight trajectory, agents found in a cell 20 phones, more than six kilos of drugs and a large quantity of cigarettes. This is not the first time drones have been used to smuggle materials into prison units.
