Varzim suffered their second consecutive defeat in the Liga 3 – Series A championship, losing at home 1-2 against Vianense, this Saturday. Despite scoring first through a penalty by Valentim Sousa at 38 minutes, the team couldn't maintain the advantage and watched Vianense turn the result around with goals by Reko at 47 minutes and Pedro Soares at 57 minutes.
The match took place in very high temperatures, around 30 degrees, which conditioned all those involved. Varzim failed to produce the football shown in the first games of the season, maintaining many difficulties in creating goal-scoring opportunities, despite the substitutions made by coach Carlos Fernandes. 2,761 spectators attended the match.
The game was still interrupted at 71 minutes due to a supporter who felt ill in the stands, probably due to the heat. The medical teams from both teams and firefighters provided assistance, and the person recovered at the scene.
With this defeat, Varzim remains on 9 points and could drop in the standings if Paredes, Marco, and Fafe win their matches. The championship will be interrupted for the 2nd round of the Portuguese Cup, with Varzim playing next Saturday, September 19, in Cernache do Bonjardim, against Vitória Sernache. For Liga 3, the black-and-whites return only on October 11, in São João de Ver.
