Minister Edson Fachin, from the Supreme Federal Court (STF), decided that he will judge separately the accusations against ministers Alexandre de Moraes and André Mendonça. Fachin denied the request made by Moraes for the full court to analyze both cases together.
Fachin's decision was made in the exercise of his role as rapporteur of the cases. With the separation of the trials, a new session was scheduled specifically for September 23, when the case involving Mendonça will be reviewed.
The request for a joint trial had been submitted by the defense of Alexandre de Moraes, who argued that the accusations against both ministers should be analyzed simultaneously by the STF. The Court is analyzing accusations related to the so-called "digital militia" case, which investigates alleged digital criminal organizations.
Fachin, in denying the request, maintained the processing of the cases in an individualized manner. The session on September 23 is expected to analyze the accusation presented by the Attorney General's Office against André Mendonça, while Moraes's case will continue to proceed separately.
