The river beach of Valhelhas, located in the municipality of Guarda, was the big winner of an election organized by the publication "Guia das Praias Fluviais". This distinction did not surprise the organizers, considering its popularity among participants.
Loriga, in the municipality of Seia, reached second place in this river beach ranking. This river beach in the Serra da Estrela thus ranked among the most voted in the country in this initiative.
The contest had the participation of thousands of people and involved a total of 216 river beaches and bathing areas throughout the national territory. This was one of the largest river beach voting initiatives in Portugal.
