Paços de Ferreira joins Health, School and families to talk about the future of children

Jornal 36012 September 2026 at 11:46

The first School Health and Pediatrics Days of Paços de Ferreira took place on September 7th and 8th, with the motto "It takes a community to grow". The event was promoted by the Community Care Unit of Paços de Ferreira, with the support of the local Municipality.

The jornadas brought together professionals from different areas to discuss the coordination between Health, School, Family and Community, placing the health and well-being of children and young people at the center of the discussion.

Over the two days, topics such as conscious parenting, adolescence, child development, the importance of play, consumption in school context, the use of technology in education, multiculturality and special health needs were addressed.

The program also included workshops dedicated to situations with impact on daily school life, such as epilepsy, type 1 diabetes and food allergy, in addition to sessions on neurodevelopment, autism and ADHD in an educational context.

Why this matters

The jornadas directly affect families with children and young people of school age in Paços de Ferreira, by addressing practical issues such as epilepsy, diabetes and allergies in the school environment. The initiative highlights the need for a joint response between health, school and families, which may influence how these entities collaborate in monitoring the development of children in the municipality.

After the tragedy, a new beginning. Embryo frozen for 22 years gave rise to a baby

A Greek couple managed to welcome a baby this week, born from an embryo frozen for over 22 years. Cristina Rapti-Tzelepi, 54, and her husband decided to pursue in vitro fertilisation after losing their son Giorgos, 21, in a road accident in October. The little girl is named Georgia, in memory of the brother she will never get to meet. The couple had little time to try to make this new beginning happen, but the procedure was successful and the birth took place this week in Greece.
