Gonçalo Lopes took office as the new commander of the Arraiolos Fire Department at a ceremony marked by emotion and the memory of Hugo Pontes, who passed away prematurely and whose leadership left a deep mark on the corporation. The moment took on a "bittersweet" character due to this recent loss.
The mayor of Arraiolos, Jorge Macau, was present at the ceremony and emphasized the fundamental importance of firefighters for the community, highlighting their essential role in protecting people and property and responding to emergency situations. The mayor expressed confidence in the new leadership and in the corporation's ability to continue the work developed.
Jorge Macau stated that the Arraiolos Fire Department is "a united and consolidated house in pursuit of its mission," meeting the necessary conditions to preserve the legacy left by Hugo Pontes. The mayor reaffirmed the Municipality's commitment to the corporation, intending to maintain and strengthen the collaboration between the two institutions, which, according to him, is decisive in ensuring the best operating conditions for the firefighters.
