CBN Journal presented on Saturday (11) another edition of "50 Debates para o Brasil," a series that discusses relevant topics for the country's future and for the October elections. This edition's program discussed homeschooling, also called home education, bringing together specialists with opposing positions on the topic.
The debate was moderated by anchors Mílton Jung and Cássia Godoy. The participants were Carlos Vinícius Reis, president of the National Home Education Association (ANED), and Ariel de Castro Alves, lawyer and member of the National Commission for the Defense of Children's and Adolescents' Rights at the Federal Council of the OAB.
Carlos Vinícius Reis argued that homeschooling is a right enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and represents an expression of families' freedom of choice. Ariel de Castro Alves argued that teaching children at home may mean taking away from the child a right that does not belong only to the parents: access to school and interaction with different people, ideas, and realities.
The program's proposal is to bring together specialists with different positions on each topic to offer arguments that allow listeners to form their own opinion on important issues for the country.
