The ADN Madeira publicly criticized the increase in the cost of living in the Region, arguing that the growth of tourism activity is not reflecting itself in an equivalent improvement in the living conditions of Madeiran families. The party, led by Eduardo Quintal, points to the evolution of housing prices, fuels and other goods and services as evidence of this disconnection.
According to data cited by the party, regional year-on-year inflation stood at 4.1%, a value above the 3.3% recorded at the national level. This difference shows, from ADN's perspective, that Madeirans face more intense inflationary pressures than the rest of the country.
The party also highlighted significant increases in specific sectors, with energy products registering a rise of 14.2% and transport increasing by 8%. These data reinforce, according to ADN, the need for particular attention to the consequences of tourism growth on the regional economy.
