Saudi Arabia decided to shut down a strategic pipeline that carried 5% of the world's crude oil, after being targeted by a drone attack launched from Iraqi territory. The attack endangered the kingdom's energy infrastructure and led to the interruption of operations in the pipeline.
The infrastructure in question was considered fundamental to bypass the Strait of Hormuz blockade, one of the most important maritime routes for hydrocarbon transport globally. Through this pipeline, Saudi Arabia was able to guarantee oil supply to international markets even in situations of geopolitical tension in the region.
The pipeline shutdown represents a significant blow to Saudi oil exports and raises concerns about global crude supply stability. Saudi authorities have not yet disclosed when they intend to resume operations at the affected infrastructure.
