A petroleum leak was detected in a pipeline in the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 85 kilometres from Ciudad del Carmen, in Mexico. An oil company is working to contain the spill and prevent the situation from worsening.
Mexican authorities stated that there is a low probability of the oil slick reaching the coast or environmentally sensitive areas. This assessment partially reassured local populations and authorities.
The situation is being closely monitored while containment efforts continue by the oil company responsible for the pipeline where the leak occurred.
