Health Minister Ana Paula Martins visited the Northeast Local Health Unit (LHU) on September 9, where she toured various services and met with professionals at the institution. The visit allowed for an on-the-ground analysis of the activity carried out by the LHU and the challenges associated with providing healthcare in a region marked by territorial dispersion and the specific needs of inland populations.
During the visit, a working meeting was held with the Board of Directors of the Northeast LHU, during which the institution's performance and the main structural challenges of healthcare services in northeast Trás-os-Montes were analyzed. The meeting was attended by the President of the Board of Directors, Miguel Abrunhosa, the Executive Director, Lino Olmo, the Clinical Director of Hospital Care, Rui Terras, and the Director of Nursing, Anabela Martins.
The Board of Directors also presented the strategic guidelines defined for the coming years, focused on strengthening response capacity, valuing professionals, innovation, and providing close-to-home healthcare. These priorities reflect the identified needs to address the specific challenges of the Trás-os-Montes region.
