Why did it take so long for voters to learn about the investigation into Flavio?

The Federal Police requested and the Attorney General's Office did not oppose the opening of an investigation into possible crimes of money laundering, currency evasion, and passive corruption attributed to Senator Flavio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ).

Minister André Mendonça, rapporteur of the Banco Master/Daniel Vorcaro case at the Supreme Federal Court, authorized the investigation on July 22, three days before the party convention that officially made Flavio Bolsonaro the candidate for President of the Republic.

The Brazilian electorate only learned that the candidate, who occupies second place in first-round voting intention polls, is under investigation almost two months after the authorization.

The article questions the reasons for this delay in disclosure, but the full content is exclusive to subscribers.

Lifting secrecy of Master case was the right move

STF President Edson Fachin made the right call by lifting the secrecy of the Banco Master case, ordering the reporting justice André Mendonça to release the inquiries, petitions, and complaints, except for materials from ongoing investigations that could be compromised. Initially, Mendonça made 14 proceedings public, but kept under seal the investigations into the film "Dark horse" (a Bolsonaro biopic) and regarding Senator Jaques Wagner's relationship with a former Master partner, which was corrected by Fachin, who demanded the release of all remaining documents.

$5,000 check if Republicans win reflects Trump's desperation

The article discusses Donald Trump's growing unpopularity, with 58% of Americans disapproving of his performance, against only 38% who approve. The article mentions the promise of a $5,000 check if Republicans win, which the analysis suggests reflects a certain desperation in Trump's campaign. The article also recalls Trump's famous 2016 declaration about being able to shoot someone on Fifth Avenue without losing voters, contrasting it with his current decline in the polls. Rising living costs, driven by import tariffs and conflicts in the Middle East, are pointed out as some of the main complaints of American voters.

The STF looked into the abyss, the abyss now looks back at it

STF President Edson Fachin took measures to try to contain the crisis at the court, including ordering André Mendonça to lift the secrecy of the Master case proceedings. According to the article, these actions came too late, after the Court had already appeared to be "lawless territory" with intense conflict among the justices, and the measures may not be sufficient to change the court's course.
