North Korea launched multiple ballistic missiles in the early hours of this Saturday (12), according to the South Korean government. The projectiles were detected around 5:20 AM local time (5:20 PM Friday, Brasília time) and traveled approximately 250 km, being launched from the Wonsan area to the East Sea, also known as the Sea of Japan.
The launch comes one day after Seoul concluded five days of joint maritime exercises with the United States and Japan. Last month, Pyongyang strongly criticized the plans for the so-called "Freedom Edge" maneuvers in international waters off the coast of South Korea, and classified them as a "threat" to North Korea and other countries in the region.
Pyongyang conducts missile tests with some regularity and displays its military power, including its nuclear arsenal, in a "cold war" with its neighbors. South Korean authorities continue monitoring the situation in conjunction with American allies.
