The Environment minister put forward the hypothesis of using water from the Castelo do Bode dam to supply the Margem Sul do Tejo, a solution that is dividing environmentalists. Quercus considered this option as the only "efficient" one to solve the region's water supply problems, showing support for the proposal. In the opposite direction, the Zero Association argued that direct water extraction from the Tagus River should be carried out, rejecting the solution presented by the ministry. The Almada city council expressed itself in favor of the idea, viewing it "favorably." The issue arises in the context of debates about the best way to guarantee water supply to the southern zone of the Lisbon metropolitan area, a region that has been facing supply challenges.
