The CIA released today more than 70 intelligence service memoranda intended for the American president about the jihadist group Al-Qaeda and its former leader, Osama bin Laden, 25 years after the September 11 attacks.
The release was described by the U.S. intelligence agency as "unprecedented transparency about the most sensitive intelligence dossier in the United States," covering the years before and the period following one of the darkest moments in American history.
The reports are part of a broader transparency effort by the agency, which has been releasing classified documents related to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The release occurs in the context of commemorations of the 25th anniversary of the attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people in the United States.
