Iceland prepares to end whale hunting. Norway and Japan may be left alone

The Icelandic government will present, in February 2027, a bill to ban commercial whaling. The measure, if approved, will leave only Norway and Japan as the only two countries in the world to continue this type of hunting.

Whaling in Iceland has been the target of protests over the years, by animal rights activists, environmental organizations, and public figures.

The bill, announced by the Icelandic government on its website this Wednesday, provides for a permanent ban on commercial whaling.
