Ceremonies in New York and Washington this Friday marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, paying tribute to the nearly three thousand victims of the terrorist attacks that changed the course of history.
The main event was organized at Ground Zero, the site where the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center stood, which collapsed after being struck by two planes hijacked by Al-Qaeda terrorists. During the ceremony, family members read the names of all the victims.
The event featured the presence of Vice President JD Vance and four former presidents of the United States: Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush, who was the president at the time of the attacks. Current President Donald Trump was not present in New York and remained in Washington.
Trump delivered a speech at the Pentagon, which was also targeted in the attack when it was struck by another hijacked plane, leaving nearly 200 dead. In his speech, the president extolled American heroism and related the date to war.
