The Republican National Guard (GNR) detained 173 suspects of forest fire crime since the beginning of 2026, in Portugal. This number represents the highest value in the last ten years, according to collected data.
The Nature and Environment Protection Service (SEPNA) indicated that authorities have already investigated 6,200 fires during the same period, which demonstrates the significant scale of criminal activity related to forest fires in the country.
The data reveals a significant increase in the detention of suspects for this type of crime, surpassing the numbers recorded in the last decade and showing greater enforcement and response from Portuguese authorities in combating forest fires.
