On September 27, Rio de Janeiro hosts the lecture "Do I only exist in the gaze of the other?", an event organized by Alma Talks that brings together psychoanalysts Ana Suy and Christian Dunker to discuss issues about love, identity and the role of the other in the construction of subjectivity. The central question of the event asks how much of our identity, desires and self-perception is built from the relationships established throughout life.
The two professionals are considered some of the most prominent names in contemporary Brazilian psychoanalysis. Ana Suy and Christian Dunker put their different trajectories in dialogue throughout the event, exploring themes such as love, desire, recognition, mourning and otherness.
The lecture is based on the book "Do I only exist in the gaze of the other? An encounter between psychoanalysts to think about love and existence", released by publisher Paidós last year. In the work, the authors reflect on how the other influences the way we construct our own existence and identity.
Subscribers of newspaper O GLOBO receive a 15% discount to attend the event, which seeks to promote necessary and current reflection on the relationship between the individual and the gaze of the other in the formation of the subject.
