GNR reinforces security in schools with "Safe School" campaign

The Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR) began on September 11 the "Safe School" campaign for the 2026/2027 school year, covering more than 4,400 educational establishments and approximately 670,000 students throughout mainland Portugal.

The awareness actions of this campaign are aimed at students, teachers and parents/guardians, seeking to raise awareness among the school community for various problems that affect the educational environment.

The program aims to prevent risky behaviors, including bullying, cyberbullying and dating violence, as well as other deviant behaviors that may arise in the school context.

Simultaneously, the campaign promotes a culture of respect, inclusion and healthy coexistence in schools, contributing to the creation of safer and more welcoming environments for all members of the educational community.

OE2027: Gaia City Council wants elimination of toll gantries on A29 and A32

The Vila Nova de Gaia City Council approved unanimously a proposal for the elimination of toll gantries on the A29 and A32 motorways to be included in the 2027 State Budget. The municipal executive, led by Luís Filipe Menezes (PSD/CDS-PP/IL), approved the elimination of the gantry on the A29 in Gulpilhares, which was installed in 2010 and has caused protests and losses for residents, who used secondary roads to avoid payment. The proposal to eliminate the gantries on the A32 came from the PS and was integrated into a common proposal approved unanimously. Menezes considered the gantry an injustice for users and asked the government and all political forces to approve this measure of "justice and social equity".

Parents Sue Ministry of Education Over Lack of Public School Places

A group of parents in Portugal is suing the Ministry of Education because their children remain without a place in public school, even though classes have already begun. The parents report that they cannot secure a place in public school, that the ministry's services do not respond to emails or phone calls, and that there is no in-person service since the General Directorate of School Establishments (DGEstE) was abolished and replaced by the Agency for the Management of the Education System (AGSE).
