Coporgest, the promoter of Comporta Beach Resort in the municipality of Grândola, demanded the formal creation of new lifeguard-patrolled and concessioned beaches on the Alentejo coast, accompanied by a network of access roads and parking lots. The company argued that it is urgent to implement pragmatic decisions in managing access along the entire Alentejo coast, instead of concentrating users in a few spots.
The position arises in the context of a dispute with the Pestana Group regarding access to the Camarinhas and Duna Cinzenta beaches. Coporgest accused the Pestana Group of having blocked access to Camarinhas Beach 12 years ago, allowing only owners and guests of Pestana Tróia to enter. In response, Coporgest is building an underground public access parking lot near Duna Cinzenta Beach.
The company revealed it had requested the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon to carry out a topographical survey and calculate the maximum capacity of Duna Cinzenta. Based on this data, it included in the project a parking lot with access from the national road and a lift for people with reduced mobility. According to Coporgest, the users of this parking lot combined with the resort's guests will fill the capacity of that beach.
Coporgest also accused the Pestana Group of intending to build a parking lot in a green protection zone to keep the public away from Camarinhas Beach, consecrating the privatization of that beach. The company announced it would oppose the project by all means at its disposal and called on the authorities to use instruments such as expropriation or the creation of public easement. The administrator of Pestana Tróia, José Roquette, said he had no knowledge of any dispute related to this matter.
