A DECO — Portuguese Association for Consumer Defense — is questioning the legality of the protocol regarding Lisbon taxi fixed fares. The association considers that this measure may violate current legislation.
The protocol in question was signed this Friday and establishes fixed prices of 16 or 19 euros for daytime trips on weekdays. This proposal aims to standardize taxi ride prices in the Portuguese capital.
DECO expressed concerns about transparency and competition in the transport sector, warning that consumers may not be benefiting from this measure. The association argues that setting minimum or maximum prices may limit free competition.
The protocol comes at a time when Lisbon's taxi sector has faced various challenges, including competition from digital transport platforms. The authorities have not yet publicly commented on the criticism raised by DECO.
