Nine Portuguese and Portuguese-descendants died in the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States. The identification of these victims was the result of two years of investigation, which allowed them to be located among the nearly three thousand people who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks.
Among the identified victims was a Portuguese man who was in the Twin Towers at the time of the attack. This man managed to save his colleagues, helping them escape, but ended up not being able to get out of the building in time.
