Your bathroom probably has black slime: find out how to remove it

extra11 September 2026 at 17:47

Bathroom cleaning divides people: there are those who hate it and those who, for some reason, enjoy the task. However, both groups have probably never noticed the presence of the black slime that exists in almost every bathroom. It is a dark, gelatinous substance that accumulates in the sink drain over the days, formed by a combination of personal hygiene products, hair, and dead skin cells.

According to an interview with plumber Hendrik Vandepoll by HuffPost, this substance is "extremely common" and is a biofilm that thrives in the moisture of the sink drain. The process begins when bacteria and other microorganisms create a sticky film that retains residue such as toothpaste, soap, shaving cream, and skin cells.

The problem is that this buildup can cause bad odors and, in more severe cases, clogs. Therefore, it is important to maintain a preventive cleaning routine for bathroom drains to avoid excessive buildup of this substance.

Specialist warns: you should (really) not put these foods in your freezer

Experts warn that many foods should not be frozen, especially dairy products like milk, cream and cheeses, which can undergo significant changes in texture, flavor and consistency due to the separation of water and fat during freezing. Fresh and creamy cheeses are particularly affected, becoming grainy and losing their creaminess, while harder varieties resist better but may become dry and crumbly. In addition to quality changes, the expansion of dairy products during freezing can cause packaging to rupture. Experts recommend that, instead of freezing, proper refrigeration should be used or shopping should be better planned to avoid waste.
